Is Network Security Over Sold?

While there are many business people in the ecommerce market who would quite readily reduce their network security budgets at the drop of a hat, is it really a sensible thing to do?

As the affects of the ongoing credit crunch continue to hit the worldwide economy, sending business activity lower and lower, many people are looking to cut costs and save money.  However, those who are looking to cut their network security budgets could be in for a real shock in the future.

The need to protect your business network has never been greater as more and more risks emerge on an almost daily basis.  This is the reason why all of the quality security software retailers will offer you regular updates as part of the service – ensuring that you stay one step ahead of the crooks.  Can you imagine the consequences if you were to cut off the service tomorrow, save a few pounds, and then get hit by a new security risk some time in the future?

For the sake of a few pounds you may well have thrown away the whole integrity of your system and compromised your whole business.  In all honesty, you need to consider the potential cost in monetary terms and loss of reputation against the cost of keeping your network security up to date.  In these tough times could you afford to rebuild your physical network and network security if your system was brought down?

Network security is like an insurance policy, you will never know the real value of it until you actually need it, although if you don’t have any problems then your security software must be keeping the fraudsters and hackers at bay!

Ignore the necessity of network security at your peril for you may save a few pounds today, but lose everything tomorrow.
